How we live our values

Hyderi Islamic Centre serves the spiritual, religious and communal needs of the local Shia Muslim community by means of nurturing their faith, upholding their values, and fostering the well-being of the surrounding community through worship, education, outreach, charitable and civic engagement. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and welcoming centre, rooted in the rich multi-cultural tapestry of South London.

Alongside serving as a primary place of worship for our congregation, we work proactively to build understanding and respect amongst all communities to strengthen community life, celebrate diversity and promote the enhancement of human and Islamic values.

Open Doors

Our doors are regularly open to welcome neighbours and friends of all faiths into the centre; each year we participate in the Annual Visit My Mosque Day, we host local schools for visits to the centre, as well as partaking in initiatives such as the Big Iftar.

We are active members of organisations such as Lambeth Citizens (a branch of Citizens UK) and Faiths Together in Lambeth – striving to work together for the common good. We enjoy excellent interfaith relations with a number of neighbouring institutions.

As British Muslims, we seek to nurture the constructive engagement of all members of the Islamic centre in broader civic society, whether this be through engagement with local and national democracy, contributing to food banks and charitable activities or by responding to crises and disasters such as the tragic Grenfell fire or refugee crisis.

We offer a range of services that enable all members of our community, including women and young people, to participate in a positive and safe environment, with a focus on developing a sense of belonging.
